Phoenix Coyotes
The National Hockey League Phoenix Coyotes have played hockey in the desert since moving from Winnipeg for the 1996-97 season. Under the direction of Managing Partner and Head Coach Wayne Gretzky and General Manager Don Maloney, the team now calls Jobing.com Arena in Glendale its home.
Although hockey fans might like to see Gretzky return to the ice as a player, fans around the world are equally excited that the greatest player in the history of the game has taken an active role with the team.
The Coyotes continue to work for a “Whiteout” – a popular tradition that started in Winnipeg but quickly carried over to Phoenix hockey fans – that involves all fans dressing in white during home postseason games. Peoria Sports Complex was the first major League Baseball spring training and player development facility in the country shared by two teams. Built in 1994, the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners utilize the facility year-round. The complex has a main stadium and twelve practice fields.
